Welcome to the January issue of FIG Newsletter. Register now for the FIG Congress 2018 and get the Early Bird discount. In this issue you will also find reports from the annual meetings of Commission 3 and Commission 7, the Africa Regional Network meeting, preparations for FIG Working Week 2019 and a symposium in Shanghai on land use and green development.

Each month on the FIG web site we publish a paper called the Article of the Month.
January 2018 is written by Daniel Páez, Abbas Rajabifard & Joaquín Andrés Franco Gantiva, Colombia: Methodological proposal for measuring and predicting Urban Green Space per capita in a Land-Use Cover Change model: Case Study in Bogota. This paper was presented at the Commission 7 Annual Meeting in Bogota Colombia. It describes the problem of lack of sustainable urban planning and territorial ordinance plans which have led to nullification, fragmentation and reduction of green space and strategic ecosystems within cities.

The Congress is organised by FIG and the Turkish Chamber of Survey and Cadaster Engineers (CSCE) and will take place 6 – 11 May 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. We are certain that Istanbul will exceed in meeting all requirements and expectations for a memorable and successful Congress. This geographical area has not hosted any FIG Congress and General Assembly before. Istanbul is one of the most impressive and attractive cities at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, where unique beauties of the West and the East come together. The overall theme of the large 4-year Congress is: The four day conference will offer an exciting and variated choice of technical sessions, technical tours and of course also the opportunity to explore the wonderful city and surroundings of Istanbul as well as the famous Turkish hospitality. The technical programme is now taking shape and is an exciting mixture of sessions composed from the open call for papers, special sessions, sessions organised jointly with our partners such as UN-Habitat/GLTN and FAO and of course the highligh of each day, the plenary sessions. Also very important is the networking part of the FIG Congress. The Annual Meeting of FIG Commission 7 took place in Cartagena,
Colombia. The meeting was combined with the Conference on
Cadastre for Emergencies and Disasters - Challenges and
opportunities for islands and coastlines, which was co-organised

The Working Week is now taking shape. FIG Vice President Mikael
Lilje and director Louise Friis-Hansen visited the local
organisers of the conference, and met with the Deputy Minister
of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Environment. The logo

Shanghai International Symposium of Land and Future took
place 24-25 November 2017 in Shanghai, China. The sympoisum had
land use and green development in both rural and urban
areas on the agenda and land consolidation. |
